Brussels, The Kingdom of Belgium

Brussels

After waking up and packing our suitcases we took the tram to Centraal station where we met one of my aunts and my cousin. We then clambered on to the train that would take us to Brussels in lovely Belgium.

Brussels is the capital city of Belgium and the headquarters of NATO and the EU. It also the waffle capital of the world. We reached there at around 3:45 and ventured out at to visit the places Brussels had to offer. We were very close to the town centre. The town centre was where there were farmers market back in the day. During World War 2 the entire square was badly damaged except for the town hall which was miraculously saved from the bombings. After that they rebuilt it and it is now a popular place for tourists who flock these grounds.

Manneken Pis is a whole lot smaller than I thought and that place was filled with Indians scrambling around. It is a statue of a small boy. Legend states that in the 14th century, Brussels was under siege by a foreign power. The city had held its ground for some time, so the attackers conceived of a plan to place explosive charges at the city walls. A little boy named Julianske happened to be spying on them as they were preparing. He urinated on the burning fuse and thus saved the city. That guy was smarter than Einstein. To rejoice that child’s move, they made a statue. On occasion, the water is removed and it is connected to a keg of beer which falls from the statue into the area below. Mugs of beer are given to passers-by.

Later that night an incident took place for which there is a separate blog. Link is given below:
