Road Safety Week

Road Safety Week

On Friday the 13 of January we went for a road safety campaign. We went out on the busy road that runs through the heart of B.K.C trying to spread the message of road safety. And ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, let me tell it was a huge success.

We were asked to make a poster to hold for road safety. I made mine in Hindi because I thought more people would understand it. It said, ‘ mat karo inti masti, zindagi nahi hai sasti’ and the full time we were singing SASTI MASTI. We were standing on an intersection where cars were passing by the millions. If there was a driver who was wearing a seat belt or helmet, we would go up and a give a rose to that person. We actually saw some people see us and remove their helmet from the back and wear it or put their seatbelt on. Then during the signal we would walk up on the zebra crossing holding our posters and telling people to move back off the zebra crossing so that pedestrians could cross. I thought it was a huge accomplishment as the message really got through to people and some people even took selfies with us to share it with their friends. It was brilliant.

I think along with other people we also learned something that day. And that was that anything is possible if you put your heart into it. We learned how even the smallest of movements can bring change to society. Every small thing counts.

Who organised this event?
Why is there so much violation of traffic rules in India ?
Why is it worsening ?
Can you think of two or three things that traffic police can do to make walking on the road safer for pedestrians ?

Hi Raghav, i liked the slogan you made. good idea to do it in vernacular as more people will understand. English continues to be only for the elite.

and the song sasti masti is quite crazy! never heard it before you bought it up during the kabini trip! keshav sings it all the time. and he doesnt know the lyrics. just the last 2 words!
